The change is the cluster, not a single opening
The clearest evidence is at Harrisburg Park, 191 Sims Parkway.
The park already brings together a playground, pond, walking track, bike trail, picnic areas, athletic fields, splash pad and amphitheater. The Harrisburg branch of the Cabarrus County Public Library is also located inside the park. Walking paths now connect those outdoor spaces to Cannon YMCA–Harrisburg at 5055 Z-Max Boulevard.
That physical connection matters. A park visit no longer needs one perfect activity or one perfect forecast to work.

The Harrisburg Park Splash Pad operates in two-hour waves. The current schedule lists 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Saturday, followed by waves from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., 3 to 5 p.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are required for every guest age 12 months and older. Admission is free for verified Harrisburg taxpayer residents and $3 per person for other guests. The facility is cashless for the 2026 season, and both walk-up and preregistration capacity are limited.

This is the place for a slower opening to the day: a walk, time near the water or a picnic before moving toward Harrisburg Park or Town Center.
Stallings Park at 4050 Stallings Road offers another lower-key option. Its amenities include a rock-dust walking trail, playground, picnic shelter and three tennis and pickleball courts, including two lined for pickleball.

The next Movies in the Park is scheduled for Friday, August 21, 2026. Children’s activities and free popcorn begin at 6:30 p.m., with the screening expected to start around 8 p.m.
